(open curtain)
We see two teenage sisters, Stephanie and Rachael, sitting on a bed in the middle
of a Barbie Doll house type bedroom. Stephanie (17) is the prep type,
she's in a very revealing nightgown with a clear robe covering it. Rachael (16)
is somewhat a Goth and is wearing black boxers with a black t-shirt or night
shirt. Stephanie has just found out that she is pregnant.
Stephanie: (unbelieving) It's not possible!
Rachael: (mock sympathy) I know you're surprised and all, but (to herself) how can I put this gently (to Stephanie) you're a slutt. It was bound to happen eventually.
Stephanie: (jumps from bed) But! But how?!
Rachael: Uh, I thought dad already had that discussion with you
Stephanie: (annoyed) I know how! But how can this be happening to me?!
(A knock comes from the door)
Stephanie: (calling out) Yes?
Mom: (from the door) Steph, are you ok? I thought I heard yelling?
Rachael: (answering for her sister) Oh yeah.
(Mom steps in. She's in her late twenties and looks like she came out of the shower. Her hair is wrapped in a towel and she's in a bathrobe.)
Rachael: She just has an STD that's all.
Mom: A sexually transmitted disease!
Stephanie: (gives almost no reaction except looking ready to kill her sister. She says nothing)
Mom: What is it? AIDS? Herpes?
Rachael: Worse.
Mom: (skeptical) Worse? How can it be worse?
Rachael: She has (as if it were something dreaded) LS.
Mom: LS?
Rachael: Life Syndrome. She's pregnant.
Stephanie: (again looking ready to kill her sister. She still says nothing)
Rachael: (to the mom's surprised face) Isn't it great? I'm gonna be an aunt!
Stephanie: (to Rachael) But I don't want to have a kid.
Mom: (sternly to Stephanie) When did you find out?
Stephanie: Well I'm not for sure yet. I'm just a little (thinks a moment) late.
Mom: How (mimics Stephanie) late?
Rachael: (trying to get back in the conversation) Two months.
Mom: (angry) Stephanie! (takes a moment to calm herself) Do you even know who the father is?
Stephanie: (angry) Of course!
Mom: Then who is it?
Rachael: (relishing every minute) Any man within a hundred mile radius
Mom: (scowling) Rachael! Get out of here!
Rachael: But
Mom: Now!
(Rachael reluctantly leaves)
Stephanie: (pleading) Mom (she sits back on bed)
Mom: (breaking down) No! I don't want to hear it! What in God's green earth possessed you to do something like this?!
Stephanie: (turning red) It-it was an accident
Mom: That's how it always starts!
Rachael: (from outside the door) And mom should know! How do you think you got here?
Mom: (at Rachael) Rachael Marie!
Rachael: All right, all right, I'm going
Mom: (turning back to Stephanie) Why didn't you use protection?!
Stephanie: Jason said
Mom: (interrupts her) I don't care what Jason said! You should know better! I raised you better!
Stephanie: (ready to cry) I-I'm sorry
(Mom calms, sits down beside Stephanie and runs her fingers through the teens hair)
Mom: It's ok, (she smiles) we'll think of something.
Rachael: (from behind door) Yeah! And wait 'til I tell dad!
Mom and Stephanie: Rachael!
